We saw an opportunity. We made a plan to make memories. We followed through.
The Royals in Dubbo. Extraordinary rain in Dubbo. Those two events coincided in Dubbo!
Never a dull moment!
What mayhem, fun and blessing!
Mrs Janetzki and two wonderful Mums went to Victoria early and secured us a great spot. Thank you so much!
Then when the troops arrived at school, we loaded them, cardboard crown and tiara adorned, onto a bus and went to town to join every other man, boy, woman, girl, dog and royal enthusiast in waiting for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to arrive.
There was plenty going on in the park in terms of entertainment as well as plenty going on in our little section of picnic blankets. This staff of ours didn’t come down in the last shower and went prepared with all manner of activities to get our troops through the waiting.
As we heard the Royals were approaching from their farm visit, we saw that a storm was also approaching and not going around as every heart in the park was willing. The car doors opened and so too did the heavens. Ponchos, garbage bags and whatever could be found, was being worn and fashioned.
We got thoroughly drenched but the show went on.
The speech by the Duke of Sussex was outstanding and so relevant and poignant to our district and people. Likewise, the time they spent genuinely engaging with people was remarkable.
Making memories, we did. We saw the Royals in the flesh. We had quite the adventure in the rain. We laughed and laughed. And the students were wonderful given all that the day held.
WCS families yet again you were outstanding in the way you got on board, helped make it happen and embraced the adventure and all its soggy consequences. Thank you!
A reporter from the Sydney Morning Herald also noticed us and came to chat resulting in a wonderful little human interest piece that was on the SMH Royal feed an hour or so later.
Due to the Royal Couple being in Dubbo, I have been reflecting on lineage and family.
Nothing makes us more royal or with greater treasure to inherit, than the privilege of being in the family of God, the King of Heaven. Lineage of the highest order.
